A sterling performance, inspired by captain Joe Vines, blew away any residual close season cobwebs against a competitive Wealdstone side.
The pattern of the match was set early as the home side pushed forward, winning a couple of early corners, but they failed to hurt the Terrors who responded with swift counter attacks - also a recurring theme.

Aaron Goode, now established in midfield, must be a pretty frightening sight as he advances on opposing defences.  He certainly proved that there is much to be afraid of when he marauded through the home back line and emphatically beat keeper Thomas with a low shot from the edge of the area to open the scoring. Ten minutes later he made use of his well proven Arial ability as he leapt above two defenders to meet another superb Hamlin cross which thundered just over the bar.

Despite having plenty of possession 'stone did not trouble King directly until just before the half hour when he diverted a low shot across the face of the goal for a corner. Again Terrors counter attacked, starting with a quality tackle from Nelson and set up for Paul Vines via the Hamlin precision delivery service. This time though the striker wastefully lashed his first touch shot high and wide.

The Terrors back three dominated the half (and indeed the entire match) with only the unwarranted booking of Joe Vines for a clean tackle casting any shadow on their performance (awarded by the referees yellow flagged guide dog!).

Batchelor missed a good chance before the break as the ball pinged around the home penalty area.  However, most of the last ten minutes were spent in the Tooting half.

Half Time: Wealdstone 0 - 1 Terrors

The second period followed a similar rhythm to the first. Wealdstone tried to liven themselves up through multiple substitutions, but the only new tactic seemed to involve pumping more high balls into the box, much to the delight of Mr King.

Jason Henry replaced Batchelor to give fresh legs to the escape routes and his tricky footwork soon set Goode up for a fine shot from distance that was no more than a foot wide of the post.

Wealdstones closest effort came on sixty five minutes when a shot from the dangerous Ebayers was cleared off the line by Matt York. With under fifteen minutes to go there came a frantic spell of end to end activity, starting with Jason Henry breaking loose and winning a corner. Paul Vines then had two close range chances in quick succession, the first bounced back to him off Thomas, but he could only tap the second over the bar. Another Tooting corner saw another goal line clearance, this time from Goode.
Wealdstone instantly countered, forcing King into a flying save. Henry again resumed the Tooting attack, but stones once more regained the initiative, this time shooting over.

Jamie Byatt had missed a simple chance in the first half, but six minutes from time he proved his strength of character by calmly picking his spot to score the second. A high goal line cross from Paul Vines was fiercely volleyed onto a post by Jason Henry and rebounded into the path of the diminutive wing back. A just reward for his committed performance.

Overall a hugely satisfying evening at what is currently a happy hunting ground where few are likely to come away with all the points.
