Paul Vines wrote himself into the Tooting & Mitcham history books when he breezed past 100 goals for the club on an action packed afternoon at Imperial Fields.

Unlike most home games this season Tooting were switched on from the outset and immediately took the game to the Angels with Dean Hamlin, in a role reversal situation, receiving a Paul Vines cross, but sending it over the bar.

On a day of strong swirling winds Colin Hartburn replaced the unavailable Matt York at the back, with Allan McLeod running the engine room.  Support was provided by Aaron Goode and the tireless Simon Parker, who teed up Paul Vines after thirteen minutes, bringing a good save from Worgans feet.  Three minutes later Parker was again involved in a flowing move, initiated by Pitterson, that gave Charlie Vines goal number 99.

Parker continued to cause problems and on the half hour worked his way into the box to  set up Jamie Byatt for a lovely turn and chip that eluded all except the crossbar.

Terrors fans will recall Ashvin Denarain from Dartford last season and sadly the memories will not be improved after a display that took refuge in a flurry of ridiculous bookings (most of which I missed as he's not one for flourishing his cards) in a futile attempt to take control of a match that he had lost very early on.

Whilst Angels were the first to twig this, benefiting form a few soft decisions, they lost out on a borderline penalty shout five minutes before the break, instead receiving a free kick on the edge of the box which gave Terrors their first real uncomfortable moments.

Three minutes before the break and the other top striker on the pitch, Tonbridges' Carl Rook, announced his presence by taking advantage of some slack defending and notching the equaliser. However, the blue celebrations were quickly curtailed when Charley Vines completed his ton in fine style with a cracking volley, sending players and fans wild with delight.

Denarain completed a poor half by failing to punish Gavyn Dayes for an elbow into Simon Parkers face - but at least the official he had the decency to look embarrassed about it afterwards!  Fortunately the players (of both sides) chose not to use this as a tinder box moment and proceeded to effectively police themselves for the rest of the game.

Half Time: Terrors  2-1  Tonbridge Angels

Tooting continued to push and were rewarded with a third when Parker curled a beauty past Worgan, but within two minutes things started to go horribly wrong.  Rook slipped in a second for Tonbridge and almost immediately was able to complete his hat trick by converting a softly conceded penalty.

If the Terrors were now nervous then they did a good job of hiding it as they continued to push forward and it was not long before that man Vines rounded off his dream afternoon by latching on to another Parker through ball and completing his hat trick.

With ten minutes left Tonbridge played their last card by bringing on strikers Sigere and almost Terror Stefan Ball, but to little effect.  Aaron Goode had posed a constant threat throughout the afternoon, particularly with his penetrating runs into the box.  One such foray, about fifteen minutes from time, provided Craig Pitterson with a chance to test Worgan and another, right at the death, was calmly planted in the back of the net by Goode himself.
