Terrors five
week winless streak came to a deserved end on a
cold and blustery afternoon in West Sussex.
Hornets keeper Josh Pelling had played just one
game for Hornets earlier in the season before
being recalled by Brighton. Unfortunately that
match was at Imperial Fields and the young
keepers performance won them the match.
However, his second appearance against the
Terrors proved to be less of a success as, just
four minutes into the game, a low Jason Henry
cross slipped past him and fell invitingly for
Paul Vines to tap home from close range.
Defending
demanded concentration on a pitch that had been
rolled flat, but offered no consistency of
bounce. Stand in full back Joe Vines also
had the slippery Tucknott to deal with down the
left flank and it was not long before the winger
carved out a chance that required a goal line
clearance. Tooting responded immediately
and should have had a penalty when Jason Henry
was bundled over as he latched on to a ball from
Simon Parker, who had stormed down the wing into
the six yard box.
Joe managed to
find time to head up field and on the half hour
supplied Alan McLeod, once more at the top of
his game, with a shooting chance that was
deflected for a corner. Parker then
dispossessed Pelling, who was struggling to
control a back pass, but could not find the
target.
Just before the
interval McLeod freed Paul Vines on half way,
but the striker still had a lot to do as
defenders were in close attendance. But, with
his eye for goal once again fully focussed,
Charlie rounded Pelling and calmly slipped home
his second of the day. |
