Tooting followed up defeat to the bottom club with a superb victory against the top one.  Matt York put in a momentous performance at the back,  but it was the electric strike partnership of Paul Vines and Simon Parker that turned the Darts defence inside out from start to finish.

A rip roaring game rarely paused for breath, and it was the Terrors who made the most of their chances.  The match was just eight minutes old when Simon Parker affixed himself to a long Dave King clearance, squeezed between two defenders and flicked the ball past Young for the opener.

Dartford stormed back but York, Joe Vines and Mitch Nelson kept them at arms length.  Meanwhile, down the middle, Jason Henry was busy showing us how good he really is, breaking up attacks and bringing the ball forward to generate his own.

Tooting should have been two up on the quarter hour when another rapier like move gave both Parker and Paul Vines easy chances, but it was not to be (this time).  The brief Dartford surge died as quickly as the unexpected noise from their fans (a first at IF) and ten minutes later a powerful Nelson header from a corner had to be dug out at the foot of a post.

Alan McLeod was operating down the right flank today and as well as carefully 'warming the ball' before throw-ins, found time to set up a searing volley for Paul Vines that Young just managed to tip over the bar.  Two minutes later and another Vines shot just missed the target when he connected with a feed from Henry.

Dartford pulled themselves together and finally got their first shot in, soon to be followed by a powerful strike that King could only parry.  As the pressure mounted Aaron Goode took more than a stroll down memory lane with a spot of top notch defending.

Tooting broke the five minute siege through another breakaway, lead by Paul Vines whose shot earned a corner when, had he spotted Parker in space, a tap in would have been on the cards.  From the set piece Joe Vines thundered his header against the bar.  The last few minutes of the half were nervous ones, with King again having to tip over and York heading one off the line.

Half Time: Terrors  1-0 Dartford

Clearly reacting to a half time roasting Dartford returned with all guns blazing.  This included repeatedly roughing up Dave King, for which they were lucky to escape with just a single booking (Bradbrook) for their serial assaults.  Typically Kingo was not to be distracted by bully boy tactics and responded with a great tip over from Hayles.

Memories of the Darts comeback in the Novembers encounter at Pride Park must have surfaced as a series of corners lead to a couple of penalty area scrambles and a string of corners.  It was backs to the wall stuff for long periods, but eventually Tooting started to hit back, with Parker and Vines inevitably involved.  First Simon put Charlie through, bringing Young into the game for the first time in the half with a low save.  Ten minutes from the end Vines picked up a cleared corner via Sam Clayton and this time made no mistake.  A minute later and a communications breakdown in the visitors defence was enough let Vines in to claim his fifth goal in four games.

A polished performance was very nearly gilded as well when Parker embarked on another of his magic runs.  This time, though, cutting back from the goal line inside the six yard box did not give him the space to curl one round the keeper, so he had to settle for a corner.

Deep into stoppage time and Darts tapped in a consolation, but by then to stand behind them was deserted and Terrors had secured their revenge on the conference bound opponents.
