A sloppy last minute goal handed Canvey Island a fortunate victory at a blustery Brockwell stadium.  Two minutes earlier though Izedan Harusha had missed the chance to grab the three points for Tooting - which would have perhaps been even luckier.

Sport aid demands that all Ryman matches played this week and next be played with a special red ball and on this sandy surface it was appropriate that they seemed to behave more like beach balls than footballs.

Simon Parker looked uncomfortable from early on and it was no surprise when shortly after chipping a clear chance straight into the arms of Russell he limped off (hamstring) with just thirty minutes gone.

Canvey had the lions share of possession throughout a first half that only got interesting five minutes from its conclusion with the appearance of a container ship on the other side of the sea wall - probably the only thing to work the channels effectively all afternoon!

Terrors worked hard and had little trouble in keeping the home side from creating any serious chances.  Meanwhile at the other end a well drilled offside trap, played high up the field, had been extremely effective until just before the break when Paul Vines and keeper Russell closed in on a long high clearance.  As they came together twenty yards out it was the striker who got to it first, cleverly directing his header into the open net.

Half Time:   Canvey Island 0-1  Terrors

Canvey continued to push forward and soon carved out their first serious chance, a bullet header that Rob King planted a long way wide of the target.  Craig Pitterson, a half time replacement for Clayton, then forced Russell into his first serious save with a powerful shot from the edge of the area, having been cleverly picked out by the wheezing and soon to depart McLeod.  Aaron Goode then came close with a header from the resulting corner.

For the second time in a week Tooting were undone by a spectacular goal when, on the hour,  the previously anonymous Fanibuyan was allowed to take the ball to the edge of the area before unleashing a fine shot that left Dave King rooted to the spot.

The equaliser spurred Tooting to greater adventure.  Aaron Goode came close with a dipping shot and then had a reasonable penalty shout turned down when he was bundled off a ball supplied by substitute Harusha, whose arrival  had given the attack a new dimension.

Into the final frantic five minutes and a Paul Vines volley was deflected for a corner before both he and Harusha got behind the home defence for the final golden chance.  The Albanian elected to chip the keeper, but his rapidly dipping effort only dropped as low as the crossbar - could the red ball have been at least partly responsible?  Worse was to follow as Canvey attacked down the right from the resulting goal kick.  The cross found Halle, whose header somehow squeezed beneath Dave King for the winner.
