Message from Mark

"I would like to say a big thank you to all our fans yesterday as they were unbelievable all game. They didn't stop singing and did not deserve a performance like that from the team.

A lot of players have left recently who I know would run through brick walls for me. Yesterday only a handful showed any passion or desire.  You can't hide on a football pitch, players will have bad games, make mistakes, but there is no reason why they can't give 100%.

I love Tooting and am proud to be manager, but the situation I'm in gives me a massive headache.  I've got to look at the players and question if they are giving everything for me and, more importantly, for the club.

the fans are the ones who turn up week in, week out and always support with pride and I'm sorry that we've let you down once again.  Thanks again and KEEP BELIEVING.

Byatt bids Tooting & Mitcham a fond farewell

Now playing (and scoring) at Merstham, along with a number of other ex-Terrors, Busy looks back - but keeps the door open for the future more

Its been a frustrating week, losing two key players at a important time of the season. Especially disappointing as one of them is the clubs longest serving player. Busy has been fantastic on and off the field for me and I can't speak highly enough of him.

When I first took over, he was out with a serious injury but I have never seen anyone work as hard as him to get fit and also help out - doing kit, filling water bottles, working behind the bar etc. He is truly a Tooting legend and I'm gutted he's going. We constantly chat and he hasn't been happy for a couple of months, with changes behind the scenes and in personnel on the field, he has said he wasn't enjoying his football. I totally understand and have told him the door is always open for him if he wants to come back. I would like to thank Busy for all his hard work, great attitude, gutsy performances and fantastic goals. I hope to see him back at TMUFC soon.

Also leaving is Lee Newman due to work commitments, Lee has come in and always worked extremely hard. I don't believe we saw the best of Lee and with his work in Dartford, he was finding it hard to give his best to both jobs. I would like to thank Lee and his efforts.

Moving onto Saturday's must win game, we have one injury doubt with Andre McCollin out with a groin injury. Andre has been in good form and is another blow, we do have options though and Leon Constantine should feature as a sub. Horsham are bottom of the league but reports are they are improving with every game, only losing 1-0 to Lowestoft on Tuesday night.

I've told the players its time to start performing and stop the rot. We have a massive amount of games coming up and a key time in the season.

Please continue your fantastic support.

Busy leaves Imperial Fields.

Tootings longest serving player, Jamie Byatt, has left the club. Busy made his debut in August 2007 and clocked up 133 appearances.  He also scored 37 goals of which many, most notably those at home to Margate and at Leatherhead, were very special.

Busy has a built a special bond with the fans, who were happy to help him through a nasty injury a couple of years ago. It is, therefore, no surprise that he would like to say a few words on his departure:

"I'd just like to let you all know that I've left Tooting and Mitcham and would like to thank you all for my great times at the club.  Thanks for your support and encouragement during my years there, especially through my injury. Good luck for the rest of the season and keep your good support going. All you fans and the club will be in my heart - never forgotten"

THANK YOU BUSY - FROM ALL IN THE BOG END (and even from those in the stand)

It was very pleasing to get our first home win against Croydon Athletic in the Cup. It was long over due and I don't care if it was against team from a division below, the most important thing is we won and played well.

It should give us more confidence going into The FA Trophy game with Wealdstone tomorrow. The match away to Wealdstone is a tough draw but its a competition i have won once at the New Wembley and Geoff twice at the Old Wembley. We will stress the importance of the Cup and make sure they play with confidence and hopefully use these two cup games to be the start of our season. It gives us a chance to forget about our league form and try and go on a nice cup run. Its always nice for the fans to get to a final and gives the players a chance to win something. With the luck of the draw, it is possible to get through the early stages and then you never know what will happen.

There have been some encouraging performances, Mark Briggs has came in and been excellent, his experience and quality in midfield will help us. Jack Giddens has been outstanding in goal and Osa continues to play well every week. I feel the team are gelling and I believe this the best squad I have had since i have been here. They are responsive in everything we tell them and are here to improve and be successful. It has taken time but this squad of players have been together for 4 weeks now, they are getting better with every game and everything we have worked on in training, they are starting to produce in matches.

I'm pleased to announce 2 quality signings, i have managed to re-sign Michael Noone, Nooney is a fantastic player and we never replaced him in the summer so i'm very happy about him returning. The other signing is Charlie Stimson, Stimmo is a forward/midfielder and is a quality young player, he has played for Gillingham and Barnet, and will be a very good player for us. Both played very well on Wednesday night and just adds more quality to the squad.

On the injury front, Jordan Wilson has been struggling with a knee injury and Joe O'Ceruill has had a groin strain.

Players leaving recently are Ben Palmer, Mark Grads, Simon Lechljy and Jason Henry. I wish them all the best of luck, especially Jason who has been a great servant and a real fans favourite. I'm sorry to see him go and would like to thank him for all his efforts.

I would like to thank the fans for there continued support and please keep believing as we try to turn our season around.

Management and squad held full and frank discussions after Saturdays game to try and get to the bottom of what went wrong. We go to Harrow Borough tomorrow after a weekend of no matches. We made the players work hard in training and allowed us time for the many injuries we have to recover. The match is massively important we get a win and put behind us last weeks result. The Cray game was a disaster and you wouldn't believe it was the same line up that played so well against Margate. We seem to not have any confidence at home at the moment, no wins in 5 matches echoes that. Other than the AFC Hornchurch defeat, our away form has been good and the players seem to play with no fear. Again this is something we need to sort out fast along with our in-ability to defend set pieces.

We have Jamie Byatt, Matt Drage and Lee Newman back in contention for a starting place, but are without Jordan Wilson (knee), Wade Small (groin) and Andre McCollin (ankle).

This is frustrating as I still haven't fully fielded my strongest 11 yet which has hampered us. I'm hoping all 3 will be back for Aveley at home on Saturday.

Last Thursday we lost Kiernan Hughes-Mason to Kettering. Kiernan was only on non-contract forms with us as this was part of the agreement for us to be able to sign him. It was always going to be a stop gap for him and only full time football would tempt him to leave. He has signed a short term contract with Kettering and had a impressive debut, he is a great lad, has a fantastic attitude and hopefully he can go on and be successful.

Once again i would like to thank the fans for there support, it has been a frustrating start to the season but believe we will improve once we are at full strength.

Marks eve of season message

We go into the start of the season in a confident mood, East Thurrock are a very good team and won there league easily last year. We will have to be at our best to beat a team who have that momentum and confidence going into the start of the season. As a squad we have worked extremely hard, I am very pleased with how the squad is shaping up.

Lee Newman will be fit again to start on the bench, and with Jason Henry close to fitness and the return of Jay Lovett for Kingstonian, things are looking bright.

All I will say to our loyal fans is we will work as hard as we can to be at the right end of the table this year. I have learnt as a manager what is needed to do well in this league and believe we will do better this time round. We also have to be realistic in the fact that there are 5 or 6 teams throwing silly money at trying to win promotion. A local team up the road have 3 players on more money than my whole player and staff budget put together!! So although I am pleased with what I have, we still are miles away in terms of finances.

We also have some big news with the signing of Kiernan Mason Hughes from Millwall, Kiernan has been at Yeovil pre-season and never got offered anything, so we have agreed to sign him non-contract. He is another quality signing and will be available for selection from Tuesday.

I'd like to ask all fans to come and cheer the boys on and hope we give you something to cheer about.

Beard  Ready and raring to go

Mark assesses the pre-season and looks forward to the new campaign

We've had a good pre-season so far. Other than the Whitehawk game where we experimented with a couple of things, I have been extremely pleased with performances of the team, which is taking shape nicely and with Jay Lovett and Jason Henry to return at the end of August, I am happy with my squad. Our problem will be if we suffer injuries/suspensions, due to the fact we are on a tight budget, we will have to rely on Academy players to fill in if needed.

With regards to the budget, I have found it very frustrating that we still haven't found a 1st team shirt sponsor yet. With the sponsor money going towards the budget, it would help me massively as I could add to the squad. But with 10 days to go, we will be running out for the first game with no sponsor, which for a club of our size is criminal. If anyone knows of any companies that may be interested, please inform the members club asap.

The players have worked so hard this pre-season and have come back super fit. We only have 2 more pre-season games left, we will be finalising the starting XI in those games. I have been impressed with 2 players who we have switched positions in pre-season, Luke Wanadio and Jordan Wilson. Luke has been outstanding at right back while Jordan has been in good form in midfield.

With Fola Onijube and Lee Newman looking good together against Boreham Wood up front, the defence looked strong and we now have plenty of height in the team. Jamie Byatt and Karl Beckford will add that much needed experience to the team and Reece Hall will be looking to kick on from where he left off last season. I've been very happy with Simon Leckyl, he commands his area and dont mind going through his own players to get the ball, thats what we lacked last season and I feel we have now addressed this issue.

Other youth academy players have been involved recently, one to watch is Mikey Daley, he is still only 17 years old and is a fantastic talent.

With the game at home to Guyana next Tuesday (16th August) to look forward to, we hope to have a big crowd watch. Then looking forward to East Thurrock United for the first league game, I have had a report on them, they are very well organised and have a excellent talent in Sam Higgins. They will buzzing after winning the league last season and will come to Imperial Fields full of confidence. We have to play with the same endeavour and energy as all the other pre-season games.

Thanks to all the fans for their support this pre-season and look forward to seeing you all next week.

FRIENDLIES UPDATE

Mark Beard has disclosed his strategy for the seasons opening games:

"I will be using 22 players this weekend against Raynes Park Vale and Tuesdays game versus Dorking, each player will play 45 minutes.

The team have come back super fit and are looking very sharp. The fans will get a chance to see new signings and It also gives me a chance to look at a few trialists, Stefan Cox, Callum Donaghey, Jordan Giffin, Kim Tae Hon and Kieran Thorpe.

The fixtures came out today and we have an interesting start at home to East Thurrock United. Its always nice to start with a home game and personally I can't wait to get started."

The Crawley Down match on July 27th will now be played at Colliers Wood FC, as neither sides pitch will be ready in time (Crawley have just been promoted to Ryman South).  There will also be a reserves match between the two sides starting at midday.  Admission for the afternoon is just £2.

INTERESTING TIMES AHEAD

Mark Beard has given his first interview of the season:

We go into Pre-season training looking forward to what should be an interesting year.

There has been lots of activity behind the scenes and I believe it will all work out for the good. I've been involved with all that's been going on and I can say we are in a good place. Meetings with the members club have been productive and everyone is rowing in the same direction.

On the playing front, the majority of last years squad have agreed to stay, we have lost Billy Crook to Carshalton Athletic, Michael Noone to Concord, Jamie Butler is trying his luck with a few professional clubs and I'm waiting on a decision from Karl Beckford.

New signings coming in are Lee Newman, Billy Dunn, Jordan Anderson, Simon Leckly and Ben Palmer.

All of the player will add strength and depth to the squad, everyone could see the problems we had last year, that was scoring goals and conceding the other end. I hope to have Jay Lovett back in August, so along with Osa, Matt Drage, Ben Palmer and Jordan Anderson, we have plenty of height. Going forward we have Lee Newman who has scored 150 goals in 275 appearances, Billy Dunn who has scored goals at every club he's been at, I also have a centre forward coming in who has come highly recommended.

With  youngsters like Reece Hall, Luke Wanadio and Matt Drage signing, we have a good mixture of youth and experience.

Teams like Carshalton Athletic have been spending silly money and will be favourites, but I don't mind going into every game as an underdog.

With regards to Lee Newman, I have known him a long time and what happened to him was an injustice. Everyone deserves a second chance and his goal scoring record speaks for itself. I believe he will be a great asset for Tooting & Mitcham United FC and I urge the fans to support my decision and Lee.

All of my players I have brought in have good pedigree and excellent attitudes. I know where we went wrong last season and hope with the new signings we can improve and move in the right direction.

I hope all fans show their support in the pre-season friendlies and take advantage of the reduced prices.
