The Terrors

The Terrors dominated the first period of another competitive workout at Church Road. A fierce Dave Stevens angled volley, superbly parried by the 'leafe keeper, after 13 minutes being the choicest moment.  Paul Vines also looked sharp, powering just over from a Pinnock lay-off on the half hour.  Two minutes later Paul broke away again, this time forcing a smart save under pressure. Colin Hartburns passing radar proved to be in full working order with a pinpoint chip to release Vines, whose lob was not powerful enough to beat the keeper. But, just before the break, there was a warning of things to come as the home side waltzed through the Terrors rearguard, forcing Dave King into his first serious block.

Dave Stevens

The six half time changes had a huge unsettling impact as, for the first 20 minutes, 'leafe carved out chance after chance. Dave King was given a comprehensive work out, producing numerous quality saves. Tooting raids were few an far between and were dealt with comfortably by a defence superbly marshalled by ex Toot Adam Broomhead. Whyteleafe continued to have the upper hand, but the chances became less and less frequent.
